Hello Ms. Cliff,

Thank you for your posting and for inquiring as to the authenticity of the product you purchased.  I have not seen this product on shelves in my area so I did a little research on their website to see if there were any "clues" that would give it away.

Firstly, I noticed that most of the evidence that this website talks about is anecdotal, meaning all of the supposed "expert" information and FAQs all refer to other websites and news sources, none of which actually spoke of this particular product.  Secondly, when they talk about their "certified" real Hoodia, they speak only about the CITES certificate and they say nothing about the independent laboratory tests.  To clarify for you, CITES is an export certificate that shows that the plant material was legally exported from South Africa, a CITES does not accurately prove that the plant material that you are exporting is Hoodia gordonii.  The only way to prove that you have Hoodia gordonii is by having an independent laboratory test the plant material on a cellular and molecular level to prove it is real Hoodia.  I was not able to find these test results on their website, which throws up a big red caution flag.  You can find an example of such tests on our website at <http://www.hoodiaproducts.com/hoodiaqualityverification.html>.

Frankly, the website doesn't appear to have any substantial or original proof that their products are real.  Many of the Hoodia companies that are selling legitimate Hoodia implement quality control procedures whereby your bottle will be marked with a number that corresponds to a particular Hoodia import lot number.  This lot would be tested via lab analysis and authenticated as real Hoodia, at this point it would be manufactured.  Because of this sort of "tracking number" you would be able see the test results for your particular bottle, which would ensure that you had real Hoodia.  I do not see any sort of quality tracking going on with this product.

Most importantly, I would trust my instincts.  After taking the product, does it work for you?  Do you feel your hunger suppressed?  If you feel sick from it at all, then you should not take it anymore and return it to the store.  I have heard of products that don't have Hoodia, and the customers do not know what they're taking and sometimes it can cause them to be sick.

In purchasing future Hoodia products, look for ones that have quality tracking numbers and can speak first hand about their experience in the industry and growing Hoodia plants.  Finally, whichever company you decide to go with, call their phone number and send them emails, see if you can talk with someone other than a telemarketing sales person.  If you can get through to someone at the company, chances are it's a real company.

For those of us who are real, we care about the Hoodia industry and the customers that we're helping lose weight.  We know the plant works and we want to make sure that we can guard the industry to keep it around, so that Hoodia can continue helping people for many years to come.

Please feel free to email me at jacob@hoodiaproducts.com if you have any further questions.  Wishing you the best of luck.

Warmly,

Jacob.
